A popular pet among the children of seafaring tribes, the Crested Newt is easy to care for and spends most of its time lazily drifting through the sands of beach shallows or ponds, feeding on algae and tiny critters like krill. However, what makes them so popular is not their docile temperament, but the way they protect themselves in the wild. Crested Newts excrete pheromones that are highly attractive to small fish! By surrounding themselves with fish, and keeping to the centre of a school, predators are more likely to target the fish instead of the newt.
