Dracostryx

Small but fearsome, edgehogs are tiny predatory creatures covered in spines. Their small wings allow for limited flight, but it's enough to make them an extreme hazard to anyone encountering them. They can be found just about anywhere, in burrows, up trees, even holding their breath while diving underwater. If disturbed, they will roll up and charge the source of the disturbance, or spring into the air and buzz into an attacker's face. They tame readily with proper skill, but be wary when encountering one in the wild.

When tamed, an edgehog's keen sense of smell is an asset to scavenging, and the little spike balls are an oddly common sight at races. They will sometimes launch themselves at racing opponents if your stryx fall behind. The time they take to dig the spines from their backside often allows their stryx to catch up and get ahead. Somehow, these have been ruled race legal.

Marimo edgehogs hunt most of their prey underwater, weaving among the aquatic mosses. If you reach into the water to pick up a soft moss ball, take care it's not one of these instead.h.
