    Hurricane Preparations

Arakanos considered the sight in front of him. Tmil, a gryph he knew from his warmongering past, was eagerly chatting with Storm, his most darling wife. Arakanos' striped tail waved slowly. The red and purple feathers were puffed slightly. Natural, given he was slightly on edge. Tmil had been a bystander to several of his brawls and likely knew how he fought, especially when pressured. Not to mention, he just didn't like other stryx near his lovely wife.

"Dear, could we please go scavenging with Tmil? Just this once?" Storm asked him suddenly. He lurched slightly as the gorgeous grey gryph turned to him, eyes open wide. She had an excited expression as she waved her long tail feathers behind her, already walking closer to Arakanos. Arakanos sighed, already knowing what his response would inevitably be. Storm smiled widely at him.

"Darling, we need more than just scavenging anyways. Tmil is offering to help us with fishing and hunting, as much as it takes to make sure we have a good stock for the hurricane coming next week!" She chirped. "All he wants is-"

"All I want," Tmil cut in, "Is confirmation on the status of someone I know you saw later than I. Surely a small price to pay to keep the wifey happy." Arakanos felt his neck feathers rising.

"Keep your end of the deal, and I'll keep mine," Arakanos finally snarled. Tmil nodded, looking fairly smug. Storm seemed to have missed the rising tension entirely as she beamed at her husband.

"Let's go!" She chirped. "Oh! Wait! I should grab our rucksacks!" Storm launched herself into the air, fluttering into her and Arakanos' cave. Arakanos turned to stare directly at Tmil.

"Leave her alone," he snarled while his wife wasn't there to hear. "Or else I'll make sure you can't bother her anymore." Tmil huffed.

"Whatever," the black gryph replied. He shook his long blue mane and turned his neck to watch Storm dart back out of the cave.

The grey female shook the large pieces of fabric out to clear them of dust. She handed Arakanos a plain grey one to wrap around his back for storage. Tmil recieved a pretty blue one, which Arakanos knew Storm kept just for guests. Finally, she wrapped a red and purple hued sack around her own back, flaring her feathers to make sure it was sitting right. Once she was comfortable with her storage bag, she hopped to Arakanos's side to make sure his was settled comfortably. Tmil had already adjusted his own, so she nodded at Arakanos.

"Dear, what's the plan for today?" Storm asked. Arakanos hummed in thought. No one present had ice breath, so they couldn't store the meat and fish. That would have to be grabbed at the end and hopefully kept as whole as possible so it would stay fresher for longer. After all, no one knew for certain how bad this incoming hurricane would be, and he didn't want to have to fly for days just to find a pitiful amount of food. Better to start with scavenging for a few days and build up their supplies of plants. Not to mention, they might be able to find things to reinforce their cave entrance and protect their nest from flooding.

"Scavenging," he finally announced. "The hurricane arrives in… what, a week?" Tmil nodded when he glanced over for confirmation. "We'll scavenge for five days, fish for one, and hunt for one. Fishing and hunting can be swapped around, but the first five are scavenging. Now. Let's get moving.

Tmil hummed mildly as he flew behind Storm and Arakanos. As a guest on their territory, he felt it best to let the couple decide where to go for each task of the incoming week. He blinked as a familiar brown blur almost smacked into him, hissing before vanishing among the cliffs. Clearly, the nuisance was on a mission, and he was glad he'd moved far away from her usual range. He refocused as Arakanos and Storm went around the mountains to reveal a gorgeous beach.

The water was a pristine blue, only marred by the foam of the waves. Several small seagulls were poking at a crab that was several times larger than usual. The sand was made of several colors, having been formed by the waves breaking up sea glass from a distant region and transporting the grains here. Small tufts of grass sporadically dotted the edges of the sand before fully covering the terrain as soil took over from the sand.

Arakanos landed first, already having decided the area was safe enough. He immediately started walking around the shore, looking for something like an abandoned net. He had ideas for how to shore up the cave, after all. Plus, after the hurricane was over, Storm could use it to hang small trinkets and glowing things from! She'd love the opportunity to decorate the cave further. He drug his talons through the sand as he searched in the hopes his claws would catch on something useful.

Storm walked beside him, grabbing seashells and in tact glass bottles she thought looked good. She had no idea what she was going to do with them, but there was always a use for pretty bottles and shells! She squeaked in surprise when one of her shells started crawling as she reached for it, prompting Arakanos to snarl and lunge instantly. When he flipped the shell over, the pair saw a little crustacean retreating into it.

"Oh!" Storm cooed. "A hermit crab!" She reached over and took it from her husband to let it skitter off again. Arakanos hummed quietly as he resumed his search.

Tmil, on the other hand, was having a fantastic time. He'd found what he assumed was part of a ship wreck. As a favor to Arakanos, he wrestled several nice planks of wood into his rucksack, hoping it'd have space for some goodies for himself. He leaned down to inspect a glimmer of shiny yellow before grinning widely. Human money! He started filtering through the sand with one of his massive talons, adding entire handfuls of small gold coins to his haul for the day. He angled his head, one red eye peering into the depths of the shipwreck. Already, he could see even more money spilling out of a chest. The chest also held several valuable looking gems, which he decided he wanted as well.

"Arakanos! Over here, I need your help!" He called. The couple started making their way towards him, Arakanos moving slower than Storm.

"Is something wrong?" she asked, already looking him over in concern. Tmil chuckled lightly at her.

"No, I just need help overturning this boat," he said, gesturing with one red tipped wing. Storm relaxed at this.

"I'm sure we can help!" Storm braced herself against the sand and bent down to get her beak under the side of the ship. She took a few moments to adjust her stance as Arakanos and Tmil got into similar positions at different ends of the wreckage. On an unspoken signal, the trio all moved. The boat flipped over with startling ease. Storm clicked her beak in pride.

"Is that all?" She asked. Tmil nodded and thanked her politely for the assistance, to which she and Arakanos started walking in a new direction. Tmil eagerly grabbed the chest, which was a big larger than a normal human chest, but not too large for him, and closed the lid, adding it to his rucksack.

The trio would leave after only a couple of hours, as Arakanos would find an impressive sheet of abandoned netting. Storm would fill her bag with shells to the point they would have to stop and lay out their haul at the pair's nest, where Tmil would offer them the planks. Arakanos would take them with a blunt "Thank you." , which was more than he would normally offer. And, once everything was secured and stored safely, the trio would set out to look for even more in a new direction.
