[OCL Round 1] Against The Odds

OCL Round 1; Elemental Constructs

It had struck Suave at the time as some form of cosmic joke. One rather at his expense...
Having had his arm twisted into entering the tournament by one of these 'Academics', the unfortunate raccoon had been immediately placed up against one Corda Iacobi. Corda was a powerful being, a dreamborn human-esque creature, with abilities beyond the spectrum of his element of water, that spread into control over dreams, spirits, and even reality itself.
Suave... Suave had a deck of cards that sometimes set him on fire.

The one thing he could be thankful for was that he wouldn't have to take this powerful presence dead on - instead, the Academics had assigned them to fight by proxy, using elemental constructs! The one thing he had to be less thankful for... was his inability to create an elemental construct. Suave would have to get creative... Thankfully, that was one strength he did have.
It was probably a surprise to Corda when his foe presented what appeared to be a pile of junk, all strapped together in a vaguely humanoid form. Compared to the statuesque ice scorpion that he presented it was... underwhelming. And it didn't exactly scream of Suave's element of 'fire'.
At least... not until Suave set the billowing towel he'd fashioned as a cape alight - and used a burst of concentrated smoke to propel the mechanism forward!

Suave knew it would only take a matter of seconds for Corda's aggressive ice beast to rip his own construct apart - that was of course, if it didn't completed fall to pieces by itself once that fire burnt through it's bonds. He just had to hope that, as it collapsed forwards, perhaps it would melt through Corda's creation before it was declared a loss for Suave.

You always are so good with making designs out of junky parts. I really like how you did the shading on the wheels! It really brings that pattern out that tires tend to have.
Plus adore how you did the ice!

    Also lowkey? Pokemon battle vibes

Haha, to be fair, Gamble has given me a lot of practise - both in compiling junk, and also on how to do a wheel like that! Her elbow has a history of teaching.

With some Pokemon designs, it really does feel only a matter of time before we get the mop-and-bucket Pokemon. XD

I love the bucket-head! Super creative!! lmao.

Corda's face totally gonna be all <.< Thinking "did... did he just do that?"

Haha, thank you! Was saying below, but my one regret on this piece is not angling it in such a way as to get his face in for such a reaction. XD
Clearly he has never faced such a ferocious foe.

Well... it's a construct. And it's on fire. Sure, that'll work, right?

Hahaa Suave must be questioning his choices (oh right, he didn't choose this), but kudos to the raccoon for being resourceful ^v^ I can only imagine Corda's stoic expression behind his cool glasses, wondering what Suave is trying to pull here...

My one regret with this piece was that I wound up showing Corda from the back. Reeeaaally wanted to just have him stood there, completely straight-faced, with a single raised eyebrow. XD

Ahaa that would totally be a Corda expression Big Smile Though you did get his face in the Decra Drain piece - I love both their expressions there too (Suave buddy, get some rest before the next round and going adventuring around the Paperverse--)

I love a good, derpy construct. >w< Little fire boi.

They're trying their best! Which I hear is at the very least above everyone else's worst, so y'know, it's only up from here!

Oh my goodness poor Suave HDKSHFKS he’s just doing the best he can with what he has

This is so fun though gosh, and the scene is fantastic! I love how you did the worried expression on Suave, too!

Thank yooouuu! Suave's two primary emotional states are 'smug' and 'panic'. Had a few examples of 'smug' already... so it felt an appropriate time now for 'panic'. XD

Genuinely love this - your scenes are just getting better and better! The environment or Aridin is absolutely lovely, especially your use of colour. Thats not even talking about the characters, and holy shit! Yeah, this is probably one of my fave pieces from u. I could gush about this forever ngl

Suave buddy you're doing great. Kill that giant ice scorpion with your silly little bucket friend you've GOT this!!!!!!!!!!! you're a strong boy!!!
    • Feb 21, 2023, 1:10:54 PM UTC
If he doesn't win, the bucket boi should at least be enough of a distraction for Suave to flee the scene!
Running away from his problems is Suave's true latent element.

That was a really cool idea!and love the background and perspective on this one really helps the piece come together.

      Thank you! I was really unsure about the perspective as I was doing it, something I've not experimented with too much yet, so I'm glad it's gone okay! ^^;
