OCL Round One: Luis V. Bucky

"You can back out anytime, you know."

Prompt: As the Academic Collective is a group of fine scholars and not battle-blinded hooligans, our first challenge is meant to test your skill without the risk of injury. For the first round, each combatant will summon a construct made of their latent element to fight the opponent’s construct. Combatants who choose to engage in further rounds are suggested to take this as a warning shot– the following challenges will not be so gentle.

Create an elemental construct and defeat your opponent’s elemental construct. You may depict your character and their elemental construct, the two elemental constructs fighting, or both you and your opponent with both of your elemental constructs.

Bucky vs Luis Dafou

Luis thought he would be lucky this round. Neither Luis nor Bucky have a good understanding of their magic, neither theoretically able to summon a full construct. Yet, by some miracle, Bucky was able to summon a full draconic contstruct, made of snow and ice.... How? ...Why couldn't Luis?

But no, the dog had to find my own methods.

While he didn't technically 'summon' a construct though elemental means, he did channel it through the Arm Project. Through a copper wire. Through a hand-held remote... It counts, alright?

His magic has more to do with resonating than creating or manipulating. He could do that by monitoring the Arm Project's vitals, soothing the asynchronicities as they developed.

This wasn't something he came up with on the fly. No, the Arm Project was something he'd been working on for a number of years now. It was his baby. This one just happened to be a lot bigger than previous iterations. Anyway, it was 'magically sourced', in a way. From Tact, he would recieve its energy source, in the form of a compressed fire pearl. From Mozza, he would recieve the enormous metal structures baring the weight.

I genuinely think this may be one of my fave pieces from this round. The framing of the characters with the actual 'combat' occurring in the back, the expressions on both of their faces, the creative response to the prompt, as well as the real sense of depth and scale all come together so so so well.
I stand by my statement that the small man cheering at the back is me.

The look on the dragon's FACE, though! So precious and hilarious. Gosh, you're so good at expressions.
