In Asphodel, high status is symbolized with gold and many bold colors. Wearing uselss gold armor, that isn't even offering protection, is seen as prized. The more osentatious, the better. Asphodel used to be a warring country which is why armor is seen as fashionable. Built out of gold, built on the back of the poor. It's a reminder of what Aeris used to be. He hates it. Everything about it. Knowing nothing but the pain of the scars, this kind of fashion is disguting.
