Draw or write your character in a formal fit that you’ve never had them wear before. How do they feel about fancy clothing?
"Mum, this looks silly."
The young Lord Galaxii Xilven, 18, was expected to attend a ball, hosted by the Dexaidal kingdom. The young man hadn't been to a formal event as a noble in a few years, and since he'd changed his title from Lady to Lord in that time, his mother opted to have all new formal wear tailored for him. And, finally, the work that the servants had been putting in for the past few weeks was able to be observed. Keyrie smiled warmly at her son. "You look absolutely stunning, Galaxii."
"Mum, this cloak looks gaudish, these pants are restrictive, and-- do I really need to have this much product in my hair?"
"You look fine. Besides, if we didn't have that much in your hair, you know it would go flying faster than a flight after gold, and we can't have unruly hair at a formal gathering like this." She walked over to her son, holding his cheeks in her hands. "You're going to do great. Plus, I'm sure you much prefer this to your old dresses, right?"
Galaxii looked away, with a bit of a pout, but nodded slightly in agreement. "Thank you, Mum."

The evening of the Summer's Eve ball, Galaxii looked in the floor-length mirror that hung on the wall of the Parchment Imp Inn, at the reflection of a half-elf prince in formal attire that he hadn't worn in years. It still fit fine; he hadn't done much growing upward or outward. Not growing upward was unfortunate, but at least the shoes added an inch or two of height. He would still be shorter than most other men at the party, though.
He wasn't going as a guest, though he had gotten an invitation. He'd been offered to watch over the ball as a guard, to look out for folks sneaking in without invite and for pranksters looking to stir up trouble. But, he'd still been encouraged to wear formal attire. He'd brought along this suit as his one and only formal wear. Honestly, yes, it was a bit tacky and gaudy, especially the lining of the cloak, but it had a charm to it. Looking at it brought him a sense of comfort, a sense of carrying home with him.
He let out a deep sigh, and stepped out, making his way to the event.

Wanted to formalize Galaxii's formal attire that I'd been drawing him in for the Summer's Eve ball (and subsequent Vogue Vampire attacks that take place canonically during the event)! This also gave me a chance to write a small piece about Keyrie and Galaxii's relationship. She's a doting mother, but a bit eccentric, but she shows her love through her quirkiness. Where she's from it's a perfectly reasonable love for stars and the constellations, lol.

It was sweet to hear about his mother too!
I did also enjoy writing the short story, I think it’s the first time in a while that I’ve written such intimate dialogue/short scene, and the first time I’ve gone into story/scene detail for Galaxii’s backstory.
Man I haven’t done that kind of exercise in forever…
