Something to Remember Her

When she turned him down, Eliza gave Gabriel a ring "To remember her by".  The ring illustrated to Gabriel the rift between them.  A noblewoman's ring, gold set with precious gems.  Too rich for his blood.  Gabriel strung it on a chord and put it around his neck, hidden by his shirt until he could sell it.  

He thought he'd rather remember Eliza when the money from her ring bought him his own shop than looking at a trinket.  

Unfortunately, before Gabriel could sell the ring he met the pirate lord, Dimitri Resano.  Now he holds onto it, tucked underneath his shirt, as a tie to the person he was before.  Before Dimitri Resano and all of the trouble.
