Margureite "Brier" Delman comes from a mountain town in the middle of nowhere.   Her childhood, though not unhappy, was filled with worry if there would be enough.  To help out, as soon as she was age she's moved to the big city to work as a bodyguard for an important personage.   Her life in service hasn't done much for her self confidence. 

She is the fifth child of seven.  Her only sister was ten years older and she spent much more time playing with her brothers than with girls her own age.  As such, she got practice play fighting from a very young age.   

Brier has recieved very little formal schooling.  Everyone was expected to pitch in on the small farm so she spent her time tending animals, working in the garden or harvesting crops.   Of course there was fun too - telling stories by the fire, making and playing with toys from what there was to spare and playing in the woods and she is an expert on many practical skills.   Still, she does not know some things others may consider common knowledge and anyone who speaks to her can recognize her rural accent.  This makes her relucant to speak.  

Brier enjoys working with her hands.  As a child she enjoyed building structures in the woods and sparring with sticks with her brothers.  Sewing, cooking and making things interest her far more than fighting these days, but she's not bad with a sword either.
