Darwin was never going to be a parent... but when a vicious and contagious Stryx attempted to attack two small young birds, he was thrust into parenthood unexpectedly. Neither chick had a family to return to, and thus he took them under his wing out of necessity. Perhaps Jake and James were not related to him or each other, but they were his family nonetheless. He has become their 'big brother' and parental figure ever since.
