Rune

It's easier to see the way color divides the face in thirds on lighter skin tones, though Runey's not as light as some. I think the one I'm working on for Kifel will use a lot more color. Want to do one for Firal, too, and she's pretty pale.
Working on picking up underlying shades, too. His skin tone is a bit darker, more in line with the island natives, since that was the way he was designed, so I spent some time sampling colors from portraits of Polynesian actors to figure out what I wanted to do. I noticed they tend to have a much more ruddy, orange-based skin tone, rather than just being darker. A kiss of sunshine, I suppose ^^

Now that I'm feeling a little better about using color, I'm going to start adding more complex lighting and such and play with that in future pieces, too.

After like fifteen years, I think this is actually the first time I did a non-comic, non-silly drawing of Rune where he's actually smiling. After consulting with some friends familiar with the character, we dubbed it the "jerk-smirk" XD

Oh my stars, he's gorgeous! And, I absolutely love the way you painted his skin tone, it looks so realistic!
