Feather Duster

I originally drew the mock-up for this picture of Yanagi in the early part of 2005 during a graded discussion in English class while listening to someone talk about oil prices in Iraq. It was on lined paper, had a design on the bodice, and royally sucked.

Months later, I was talking with my friend and co-author of the manga we're doing (she draws, I write), Angely i Demony, and we were discussing a ball scene. I remembered this dress and thought BOOM! That's what Yanagi will be wearing when Lucifer seduces her.

So, technical details about the dress. The bodice part is a boned bodice (i.e. there's plastic boning, like a ribcage, inside it--think corset). It's satin fabric and a like, pearly pink. The overskirt is a tattered gauze matieral that fades to the same pearly pink around the edges that the bodice is colored. All the gems are pink colored opals. Her shoes are made of black satin and would be classified more as reinforced ballet slippers with stilletto heals.

I love the coloring, very soft! Tip: if you want to make your colored pencils look extremely smooth and whispy, almost like water color, take turpentine on a kleenex and wipe it over the area you want to be smooth. It breaks down the wax in colored pencils(like prismacolor) and leaves it completely smooth. Try it out, I think youll love it!

I'll have to try that, then. It's a good idea. Yeah, I used Crayola on this, lol. Yay cheap pencils.
