This was a sketch I did while trying to make my works look more proportional. Hope it worked.

    What kind of things are you wanting crit on with this?

      Anatomy mainly. (Excluding the fact that he only has one eye, of course)

        Sorry for the late response on this! I've been very busy lately and haven't had the time to put aside to think about critiques ^^;

        Now, for my critique. My crit isn't so much about anatomy, but stuff that is immediately effecting yours in this picture. Also, it's tough to crit anatomy with clothes on. If you want crit on that, give me a picture with him dressed down to underwear, and I'll give you a better idea where you need improving Smile the stuff I'm commenting on here is stuff I think that needs to be pointed out cause for this picture, it's more important.

        First thing, you picture is on an angle. 4 degrees out is how much I figure it's out by. This is a problem cause it creates an un neccesary tension in the picture. If you want tension, I'd go for more angle than this. If you just want a character portrait, a perfectly up straight pic is better cause the viewer ignores the the tension value immediately and concentrates on it as form. There's 2 ways I can think of off the top of my head to fix this- 1 rotate the picture via photoshop / photo manipulating program. This is easy and fine for a single person picture, but it leaves blank areas of canvas around the picture where it turns it and can't make up replacement info- specially if it's 4 degrees worth of rotating angle! The other way is to physically draw your gravity line before you draw. This is the better way of doing it in case other characters are also on an angle, but a different one to the main character. You want gravity in 1 direction, not several. A balanced body has 50% of it's weight either side of the line, and the line starts where your neck joins your skull. That is your centre of gravity. The body forces you to have that point positioned evenly over your body weight. Obviously this rule does not apply where gravity is non existent or if external forces are at play. *lets out breath of air* Please tell me if this is confusing cause it's hard to explain XD The lopsidedness is actually really easy to explain too cause I use to do it. IT's cause you're drawing on a desk rather than up right. Oh, and you're possibly drawing sideways on the desk- I still do this myself. drawing your gravity line will fix all of that easy though so don't panic Smile

        2- I'm not sure what angle his face is on. If it's straight forward, the face part of the head isn't in the middle- it's to the left (viewers right). IF he's looking on a 3/4 angle, then the face set up is for looking forward. It's something to keep an eye on- how the face changes while the head turns. It'd be a good idea to practice your heads on various angles without hair in the way Yes

        3- Body language. I'm not entirely sure what he's suppose to be conveying here. You look like you could be trying to give him a tough look, a defensive look, a scared look, and a 'What are you looking at?' look all in one. I don't think this is the case. How do I describe this... See, you can screw around with body proportions till the cows come home, but if the body language sends too many signals, it doesn't matter how accurate you are.

        I think you're going for confident, right? The arms are in a defensive stance- being crossed over the body. If you stuck out his chest a bit and put his hands on his waist, he'd look more confident. Flattening the eyebrow out also gives a pensive look which I think is what you're wanting here. [thumb28771] The expression here? Tell me if I read your expression wrong here. I'll give a better description of body language to convey it.

        As for direct anatomy, he looks a little... skinny. I'll get shot down for saying that though cause some people like the look, but he's wearing baggy pants which are already quite small on him, so he's going to have thin... perhaps anorexic legs. If you straighten the leg out and make it look like it's not so baggy but correctly fitting, it'll give his leg some meat. Either that, or widen the legs so they can be baggy AND give his leg girth Smile

        Great start though! Don't get me wrong- this is ALTO of information to take in, and some you probably think you don't need to hear cause you're only doing it for fun, but you'll need to know at some point if you're wanting to improve. In any case, I hope I've been helpful for you Smile Keep practising your body proportions, and soon you'll be hitting them on the head. I promise!
