Satania - frontispiece

Posted Jun 10, 2005, 8:14:11 AM UTC
The frontispiece for the raven poetry book. This is the main character portrayed in the majority (or all, I'm not quite sure) of the poems. Modelled after the author's love interest. :P Graphite.

Neato! Nope, I don't know that story (at least.. I don't think I do), but it's cool that you can see that in her. Smile

You're great for lifting my spirits, Lloyd. You grin and stare all you want. Embarrassed I won't stop you. ROFL

I'll have to post a scanned picture of the published version. Big Smile My first book illustration!

Yes, please scan the cover. I would be very interested to see your work as a book cover. I want to see how they used the layout and if they covered any of your art.

heh... Well, I'm the one that designed the writing and the art and the layout, so none of the art was covered, no. The author did self-publishing through a place called Lulu. He's distributing his book through the internet, on his site.

I love your eye for detail. This must be the picture you were telling me about that you did for the book. I love how you made her dress. I'm assuming it's a dress. I love the ankh around her neck. The only thing is that maybe her neck might be a little too thick. If you maybe trimmed down (her right) side of her neck a little, it might give you that sleek, feminine look you were trying for. Otherwise, it's a gorgeous piece of art. I am already a fan of yours. Keep up the good work.

I can't/won't slim down her neck for two reasons... First and foremost, it's impossible, as this has already been published and the original sprayed with fixative, and second, I was drawing from a specific photograph, and was told to make it look as much like that person as possible.. Well, this is what she looks like. LOL.

Thanks SO much for the critique, though, and in any other circumstance I would gladly and readily take the advice, as I very much appreciate constructive criticism.

I did make the dress, yes, straight from my odd mind. She was supposed to look somewhat gothic, but not pale-skinned (at least no more than she is naturally), so this is how I interpreted that mood... Thanks so very much for the comment - I really am sorry I can't fix her... Corky Smile

I hope I didn't offend you. I hate doing that. *frowns* It's really great that you did a true-to life portrait. I think it's the best art there is. I wish I knew somebody who would do my damn portrait. I once tried to draw myself, but failed miserably. I did portraits of my children. I am going to post the one of my daughter up in a bit as soon as I find the picture that it was drawn from. I wanted to post them both together. Again, I'm sorry if I offended you. Besides, you should only revise a picture if YOU want to... not because someone says you should. ^_^

No, no, luv! You didn't offend me at -all-! I'm sorry if I made it sound that way. lol. I just wanted to explain to you why it was the way it was, and why I could not fix it. Tongue I really do appreciate all constructive criticism. It makes me happy to know that people are looking over my work so closely. There are a lot of things I would change about this picture if I could... And please don't worry about offending me. It takes an awful lot to do so, especially on the internet. *hugs*

Ah, I feel so much better now. Thanks for the hugs. *smiles* You did do a marvelous job, hon. I loathe birds, but this one I couldn't help but like. You draw ravens very well.

Thanks so much, Lady! This was my very first bird drawing... So it's nice to hear such a big compliment. Smile

Wow! Your first? Really? Could've fooled me. The way you have it drawn is so realistic. I would have thought birds were one of your specialties. Excellent job.

*blush* Well.. I did a -lot- of research before I drew it. I don't like trying to draw something for someone with no knowledge of how it works. Thanks so much for your kind words, luv. Big Smile

Wow..... this is really deep. I love the misty effect around them. It's creepy, but in a really beautiful way!

She's supposed to be standing on a beach pre-storm... but I didn't have enough space with the dimensions asked for to do that, so this is what happened. Thanks Stealthy! Wacko

You're welcome! Now that you mention it, I can see the beach thing here. It's just kind of shrouded in a very appropriate goth-mist... lol! Great job ^_^
