Handsome is as Handsome Does

A contest piece for a contest I did not win. lol. I always liked rhinos more than horses, though.. they seemed to me to have so much personality! But then, I've never been around either of them in my life.

I should've commented on this picture aong ago. it's really beautiful.Worship I especially love the rhino. He looks really friendly unlike the unicorn, although maybe not in real life.Grin I do like horses though. And I absolutely love their surroundings. Yes I'd love to see more animal drawings from you, it's really wonderful and certainly a fav!Heart

This piece took a lot of researching for me - I'm not so hot at animal anatomy at all... Nor, at the time, was I so hot at doing backgrounds. I'm getting better with that part, though.

I still don't do animals much, though, because they take me twice as long, at least, to find enough resources to get them correctly proportioned and all that... And even when I DO use tons of references, I'm never sure if I've got it quite right. Does that make sense?

I know when I get people right and wrong. I can see my errors plain as day - but with animals? I'm in the dark.

Thanks for the comment, dahling! Heart

No prob.Smile I know what you mean, I don't do animals much myself for the same reasons as you.Yes I did use to draw horses but I haven't been very good as much as I tried. And now I don't draw animals at all because I don't really feel like it and I know it'll suck. Ponder
I can only say we do what we're best in...

*grin* Although I still have some awesome and hilarious compositions in mind for a pair of centaurs....

Well, then if you feel like posting something like that I'd love to see.Grin

I would love to see this colored. It is beautiful
    • Jun 21, 2005, 11:42:14 PM UTC
Thanks for the kind words.. But it will never be coloured. The nature of the piece is pure graphite. Smile Again, thanks for taking the time to comment, it is much appreciated!

Wow, this is awesome! I love the unicorn's expression...Bounce
    • Jun 7, 2005, 9:30:23 AM UTC
Laughing That was hard to achieve, too. I'm glad you like it so!
  • Jun 6, 2005, 11:42:12 PM UTC
I just checked out all your art... OMG! You're so good! And so original. You've got a load of talent. Keep it coming! ^_^
    • Jun 7, 2005, 12:06:50 AM UTC
lol. It will never, ever stop. I promise you that. If my hands get cut off in a horrible accident, I will learn to paint with my mouth. Thanks so much for the encouragements and comments, and for taking the time to look through my little gallery! Embarrassed
      • Jun 7, 2005, 1:38:46 AM UTC
I know how you feel! Hopefully that will never happen, but hey, if you're this good with art by hand, who knows what else you could do? lol!
Great job; can't wait to see more ^_^
        • Jun 7, 2005, 9:17:28 AM UTC
They go on forEVER, trust me. Well, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration. When I get home from work today I will upload some more work from my other galleries.

Robin! I am so terribly happy your here! *clapping hands*
You already know how I feel about this piece but in case you forgot here it is!

The subject matter is enthralling, I love the comparison you threw in between the two and the title just conveys a lot about this pic. The background also impresses the hell out of me. A wonderful work of art and i'm proud to know the creator.
    • Jun 7, 2005, 12:13:25 AM UTC
*grin* As I'm proud to know you every time I see a new work of yours. Sometimes it can be hard to find true friends online, but occasionally, we hit gold.

I haven't forgotten! I still have the comment in my elfwood gallery, and I see it every time I check up on the new comments on that piece. And sometimes, when I'm feeling down, I like to go back and browse all the wonderful comments people leave for me. It makes me happy again. Tongue

Wow, this is great! Wonderful shading and highlights. I love how the unicorn and rhino seem to be stareing at one another. Welcome to the site! I'm pretty new myself, I joined about the same time as Lady Anime79. Very cool! Great job! Smile
    • Jun 7, 2005, 12:08:46 AM UTC
This is, so far that I can see, exactly what I've been looking for in an art site. A place where people can comment on your art, and you can post all types and genres that you create. I am SO glad that Lloyd brought me here.

They are staring at one another... Well, the unicorn's glaring, but that's another matter. LOL.
  • Jun 6, 2005, 10:47:59 PM UTC
    Guess who? Wave

I totally love this pic! It's so... so... *scribble, scribble* No... *pages flipping* where, where is it? *more scribble* AHA! It's so REALISTIC! (sry, took awhile to search it from a dictionary...) Embarrassed combined with Wacko
    • Jun 6, 2005, 10:50:28 PM UTC
LOL! I don't usually go for complete realism with my pictures (I like to keep some hint of what I made it with) but in this case, I was goig for more realism than I usually do, so I'm glad you like it!
  • Jun 6, 2005, 10:44:46 PM UTC
Oh my goodness! You have phenomenal talent there, bud! I love how you depict them living in perfect harmony. The shading and the detail are superb. Excellent work.
    • Jun 6, 2005, 10:47:51 PM UTC
Thanks so much! I had fun with this one, and still enjoy it today. Probably because it different from my usual. Tongue
      • Jun 6, 2005, 10:51:01 PM UTC
Are you new to this site? I don't remember ever coming across anything of yours before. But then again, I'm fairly new myself.
The most important thing is that you have fun with your art. otherwise, what's the point?
        • Jun 6, 2005, 10:53:11 PM UTC
I am new. I just joined.. umm.. a few minutes ago? An hour maybe? I'm trying to submit a few things before I run off and watch a movie with my buddy, etc. But yes, Dennis directed me to this site (he's originally my buddy from two other galleries...)

I do have fun with my art. I don't make money off of it, so really, if I didn't have fun, you would see nothing here. *grin*
          • Jun 6, 2005, 10:59:53 PM UTC
Honey, we all do it for the love of art. I didn't know you know Dennis. How cool. I LOVE Dennis! Not that way. He's happily married. I just love his work. And I love chatting with him. He is so inspirational and helpful. To be honest, I thought your work reminded me of something he would do. He's into the whole fantasy genre as well. Well, welcome to BogusRed. I am LadyAnime79 (or Kristina- whichever you prefer). I hope you enjoy your stay on this site. The members are all so very helpful. If you need anything, feel free to ask one of us. Oh and you might want to introduce yourself in the forums. That's a great way to make new friends. Keep up the great work!
            • Jun 6, 2005, 11:03:21 PM UTC
I'm planning on doing some forum-greetings tomorrow night, yes. Smile

Hello Kristina, I'm Robin. lol. Or Minimaid, whichever YOU prefer. I don't know Lloyd personally, but I often wish I did. He'd be fun to have coffee with sometime. Him AND his wife and kids. Tongue

I think I will soon be quite invloved with this site. All two members I've met so far have been very friendly. Laughing
              • Jun 6, 2005, 11:29:16 PM UTC
We are all friendly... or just crazy. Either way, this site is so much fun! All the members get along very well and I have yet to hear of anyone on this site flaming anyone else. I've never seen it happen. Everyone just gives you such helpful advice to try and help you develop your talent even further. I was originally at TheOtaku, but I didn't really like it there. So I was looking around and found this site. And I fell in love with it!
Yes, Mr.Zacarias would be a blast to hang out with. I'd love to play D&D with him sometime. I've never played it before. But he is an avid player. And alot of his work comes from those characters in his RPG I guess. I'm glad you joined our family. I promise you you will fall in love with it just as I did.
                • Jun 7, 2005, 9:57:38 PM UTC
I already have fallen in love with our family. This is exactly the internet home I was looking for. Smile
                  • Jun 8, 2005, 9:23:00 AM UTC
It's easy to fall in love with the people here. I originally had my art posted at TheOtaku, but, I wasn't too happy there. Even got flamed for my nude drawing that I did. (Oh well.) So I went looking for a place to post my fanfic that I wrote and found this site. And then when I found that I could post my art here as well, I was in love. Plus, everyone is so eager to offer there kudos or nicely tell you things you need to fix. That's what I love. They don't flame, they just try to help you become your very best. I am glad I stumbled onto this site. It's the best thing I've done. ^_^
          • Jun 6, 2005, 11:57:11 PM UTC
I bet you'd make money if you sold some of this artwork on clothing or on nice tote bags or mugs or something. http://www.cafepress.com is a site that does that but I've heard that the pictures on their apparel don't last.
            • Jun 7, 2005, 12:30:26 AM UTC
Actually, I'm working on a personal website to sell some of that type of thing. My stepmother is a graphic designer, and has contacts with printing companies... I;m going to attempt to see what I can do that way. When I actually have something, I'll be letting people know. After all, I have to start somewhere, right?
              • Jun 7, 2005, 12:43:56 AM UTC
Let me know how that goes. I'd like to get into that during this summer. I'm hesitant to go with Cafepress as I've heard mixed reactions to their shirts. If you find any good companies out there that do low volume printing, let me know.
                • Jun 7, 2005, 12:53:45 AM UTC
I'll write out some letters. Zdenka (my stepmom) runs a very small company, so I think the printers she uses have no problem doing low volume printing.. The problem is, I just don't know if they do t-shirts and such. I will look it up, and let you know.
